Eating a Balanced Diet

A human being needs to eat a balanced diet to survive. This is a relatively uncontroversial piece of information. There are certain kinds of foods available to us and we need to eat certain amounts of these in a certain combination in order maintain a good, healthy body.

Because weight loss and fitness are such enormous industries, the idea of a balanced diet has become somewhat fetishised in contemporary culture. We have warped ideas of what we should and should not eat to be healthy, and we tend to overdose on bioforce and vitamins because we think they help us to stay in shape.

The long and the short of the matter is that everyone is different, so what is effective and healthy in one person, will not necessarily be quite as good for another. The diet that you eat should be grounded in an analysis of your height, your weight and the amount and type of exercise you do on a regular basis.

It should not be necessary to take extra supplementary vitamins if the diet you eat is a truly balanced one. All the vitamins, nutrients and minerals you need, you should be getting from the fruits, veg and lean proteins that you eat.

In times of stress or illness, it may be necessary to supplement your diet, however, at all other times, this should not be the case. Instead of turning to shelved vitamins for quick fixes and pick me ups, we should, in fact, go back to basics and fix the core problem.
