Many people, when they reach a certain age, are faced with a difficult decision of whether to stay in their own home with live in carers or whether to move into a retirement home. The final decision can be based on many factors including financial and medical but it is important for the person in question to be happy with their choice.
Some people prefer to stay in their own home, with a round the clock or part time carer to help them with daily life. They prefer this to being in a retirement home as they have their own knick knacks around them and can remain in a house which they have often lived in for many years.
This can work very well, especially if the person involved does not need extensive medical care and prefers to remain as independent as possible.
Other elderly people do actually prefer to move into a retirement home as it means that everything is done for them and they can forget about the stresses of living in their own home. It also gives them the chance to make new friends and to enjoy an active social life with people of the same age.
It is a case of weighing up the options and making a decision on what will be best for you as only the person involved can make the right decision.
